Female victims of floods have perished
Recently, northern Italy has experienced severe storms. These torrential downpours have led to rising water levels in numerous rivers. It seems that three individuals have fallen victim to these swelling waters. Two females have met their demise in this region, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, while a male remains missing.
Two young ladies were discovered deceased in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia area near the river known as Natisone. They had been swept away by the fierce currents on a Friday, subsequently vanishing from sight. Rescue workers from both the fire department and civil protection eventually located the women's lifeless bodies, as announced by the mayor of Premariacco over social media. Unfortunately, the third individual who accompanied them, a young man, is still missing.
On the day of the incident, these three people were located in Premariacco, near the Natisone River. The water levels had rapidly increased due to heavy rainfall in the region. The three youngsters were seemingly shocked by the strength of the water masses and were carried away by them.
Videos making rounds on social media show the three people crouching in the water, holding onto one another. Witnesses quickly reported the incident, leading to prompt action by the fire department in an attempt to save the three individuals. However, the force of the water proved to be too intense, causing the trio to be separated and moved in different directions.
Caught in Deadly Waters
It is still not clear as to why these three individuals were at the water. Local news outlet "Bild" reports that there is a complete swimming ban in place in the area they were found. Signs cautioning against swimming are visible everywhere.
The deceased females are believed to be Italian and Romanian, while the missing male is said to be Romanian as well. Friuli-Venezia Giulia was on high alert due to heavy rain and potential flood dangers at the time of this incident.
Mayor Michele De Sabata of Premariacco took to Facebook to express his sorrow, "It's a tragedy. Two bodies have been found. We pray for the two girls." He also voiced his appreciation for the rescue worker who risked his own life to save them in a difficult situation.
