Federal Cabinet sets reform of the promotional bayclf (Bafög) in motion

People who professionally upskill should be stronger supported by the state. The Federal Cabinet has initiated a reform of the so-called Advance Training BAfoG in Berlin. The costs for further training measures should therefore be further reduced for the participants.

Therefore, starting from next year, the maximum funded amount for training and examination fees will be increased from previously 15,000 Euro to 18,000 Euro. The maximum funding amount for the creation of a masterpiece will be doubled from 2000 to 4000 Euro. Single parents who undergo further training will also receive a higher childcare allowance. It rises from 150 to 160 Euro per month.

According to the Statistical Federal Office, more than 190,000 people received Advance Training BAfoG in the previous year. The funding amount amounted to around one billion Euro. Half of it is granted as a subsidy and therefore does not have to be repaid. In addition, a favorable loan can be applied for. Most frequently funded in 2023, as in the previous year, were training for upcoming kindergarten teachers and teachers before industrial master craftswomen and -men.

The Federal Cabinet's reform of Upward Bafög aims to provide Stronger support for individuals who professionally upskill. This reform in Berlin aims to further reduce costs for participants involved in training measures. The Federal Cabinet's decisions will significantly impact the way funding is provided, with increases in the maximum funded amount for training and examination fees.
