FDP politician demands Ukraine soli from NATO states
The Chairman of the Defense Committee, Marcus Faber, has called on NATO countries to provide military aid to Ukraine annually, equal to 0.25% of their Gross Domestic Product (GDP). "NATO should make support for Ukraine mandatory for all members. Similar to the 2% requirement, all member states should provide 0.25% of their GDP for military aid to Ukraine. Germany already meets this goal, but other member states do not," said the FDP politician to the "Bild" newspaper.
Faber also demanded that the NATO summit should make efforts to secure additional support from third parties. This would benefit both Ukraine and NATO, Faber added.
Likewise, the Chairman of the Munich Security Conference, Christoph Heusgen, urged NATO to help Ukraine more quickly. At the same time, he called for the delivery of Taurus cruise missiles. He stated on Deutschlandfunk that NATO had already accomplished a great deal in supporting Ukraine in the past two years.
Now, sustainable development is important. "This is a turning point. But we keep seeing hesitation and it's going slowly. And the promises, until they are fulfilled, take a long time," he said. The Russian attack on the children's hospital is a serious war crime, and Russia's President is crossing one red line after another.
The delivery of Taurus would not mean getting involved in the war. "The point that is always given, for example, that you would need German soldiers to properly install the weapons - but that's not true. Germany has delivered Taurus to South Korea in a conflict region without German soldiers. And what the South Koreans can do, the Ukrainians can do the same," Heusgen said.
