FDP must face member consultation on coalition
The initiative for a nationwide survey of FDP members on their continued participation in the traffic light coalition with the SPD and Greens has received the necessary support. One of the co-initiators, Kassel district chairman Matthias Nölke, told the German Press Agency that the necessary number of 500 signed petitions had been received.
The initiative follows an open letter from 26 state and local FDP politicians who, following the poor election results in Hesse and Bavaria, called for the FDP to reconsider its coalition partners.
The letter demands that the FDP Federal Executive Board conduct a member survey on whether the FDP should remain in the traffic light coalition as soon as possible and in accordance with the federal constitution. The question text should therefore read: "Should the FDP end the coalition with the SPD and Greens as part of the federal government?" The possible answers are "yes" and "no".
The FDP is now obligated to conduct a nationwide member survey regarding their continuation in the traffic light coalition with the SPD and Greens, as the necessary petitions have been collected. The call for this survey came after an open letter from several FDP politicians, criticizing the coalition's performance and suggesting a reconsideration of partners following poor election results.
