Corona policy - FDP MP Pürsün heads corona investigation committee
The new investigative committee for the processing of Hessian Corona politics was constituted at the Landtag in Wiesbaden in the evening. The body elected FDP parliamentarian Yanki Pürsün as its chairman in its first meeting under the leadership of Landtag president Astrid Wallmann. SPD deputy Tanja Hartdegen was appointed as vice-chairwoman. The body has 16 members. "It is important to me that the committee can fulfill its investigative mandate. For this, we must stay focused on the matter and work constructively together," Pürsün stated.
The largest opposition faction, AfD, had pushed through the committee. CDU, SPD, Greens, and FDP, however, shortened the investigative mandate from 36 to only 7 points due to constitutional concerns. This is the first investigative committee of the current legislative period.
The parliamentary leader of the FDP Landtag faction, Oliver Stirboeck, declared, "We would have considered another body more suitable for drawing insights from the handling of the Corona pandemic. However, our faction is still ready for constructive and factual work. 'For us, it's about facts, not fake news.'"
The investigative committee's focus is primarily on the health measures implemented during the Coronavirus pandemic in Hesse. The AfD's push for the committee's creation stems from their concerns about the handling of the crisis. The FDP, despite preferring a different body, is committed to providing factual insights in their constructive work within the committee. Yanki Pürsün, as the committee's chair, emphasizes the importance of staying focused and working collaboratively to fulfill their investigative mandate. The SPD, represented by Tanja Hartdegen, holds the position of vice-chairwoman in this committee, which operates under the leadership of Landtag president Astrid Wallmann in Wiesbaden.
