Lightning strike in the mountains - Father and daughter dead by lightning strike

In the Bulgarian Balkan Mountains, a father and his 11-year-old daughter have died due to a lightning strike. According to Bulgarian National Television (BNT) in Sofia, the man was with his two children near the 2169 meter high peak of Kupena. His son was rescued by a military helicopter. The 13-year-old had alerted the emergency services after the lightning strike. The 47-year-old man was reportedly an experienced mountaineer. However, he had undertaken the mountain tour under unfavorable weather conditions.

Despite the father's expertise in mountaineering, the misfortune of the lightning stroke occurred due to the harsh and unfavorable weather conditions during their leisure mountain tour in Bulgaria. The tragedy unfolded near the high peaks of Kupena, a location known for its breathtaking landscapes but often prone to unpredictable weather. This unfortunate incident highlights the importance of always considering the weather before embarking on such leisure activities in mountainous regions.
