Charge for assault - Fatal Shots at School: Parents of 15-Year-Old Charged

Because they are alleged to have been accessories to the violent death of a 15-year-old, the public prosecutor's office in Offenburg has indicted the parents of the suspected shooter. They are accused of negligent homicide and violations of the Gun Law. The pistol used by their son at a school last autumn was found to have unlawfully been in the possession of the parents and was not adequately secured, allowing the suspected shooter to gain access to it.

According to reports, the Grand Jury of the Offenburg District Court must now decide whether to open a main trial. In case of conviction, the accused face prison sentences between six months and five years. "Until a valid conviction, they enjoy the presumption of innocence," it was stated.

Judgment in son's trial expected soon

The trial against their son, who is currently being tried in secret before a Juvenile Court for murder and attempted murder, is reportedly nearing its conclusion. The proceedings began in mid-April.

The 15-year-old is alleged to have shot a classmate at a school in Offenburg (Ortenaukreis) on November 9 last year with a pistol. The victim died in the hospital. The boy reportedly had 41 bullets with him. The weapon used for the crime is said to have come from the parents' household. Additionally, the youth is accused of attempting to ignite a Molotov cocktail in the classroom of a special needs school and in the stairwell, but this failed. In case of conviction, he faces a juvenile sentence between six months and ten years.
