Soccer in the capital - Fans' rush to Berlin for the EURO final expected

At the final match of the Football European Championship on Sunday evening at the Berlin Olympiastadion, thousands of fans are expected in the entire city. Spanish and English fans are already gathering in the afternoon at meeting points near the Gedächtniskirche near Ku'damm and at the Messegelaende. For the fans who couldn't buy one of the around 70,000 entrance tickets for the game, the Fanmile at Brandenburger Tor and the large fan area in front of the Reichstag building are the last resorts.

Moreover, the game will be shown on numerous TVs and screens in beer gardens, pubs, and in front of Spätis. According to a report from RBB, there were 2,335 TVs and monitors registered at Gema in Munich for public football broadcasting in Berlin.

Olympiastadion is inspected before the Final

The Police will once again be in action with several thousand people to ensure a smooth run. The Olympiastadion will be checked and inspected one last time before the game to ensure safety. During this process, police dogs will also be used to detect explosives. This was announced before the EM.

On Monday, Senator for the Interior and Sport Iris Spranger (SPD), Police President Barbara Slowik, Fire Department Chief Karsten Homrighausen, and UEFA Tournament Director Martin Kallen will draw a balance of the European Championship from Berlin's perspective.

After the final, the Fanmile will be dismantled on Monday. The artificial turf laid on the Straße des 17. Juni will be used on Berlin football fields. For the giant football goal, which stands as a decoration at the Brandenburger Tor and was supposed to be scrapped, a new opportunity has recently arisen: It is for sale.

Gastronomes on Fanmiles with mixed balance

The providers of food and beverages on the Fanzones at the Brandenburger Tor and the Reichstag look at the business during the Football-EM with mixed feelings. A large part of the vendors expressed satisfaction, said Arnold Bergmann, owner of Bergmann Eventgastronomie. However, the non-playing days at the Fanmile at the Brandenburger Tor have affected them negatively. "It was weak to poor for the gastronomes," said Bergmann.

His company coordinated the applications of the vendors for the Fanzones. Roughly 30 to 35 stands offer food and beverages at both locations. While at the Reichstag all EM games were shown, only selected games were shown on the large screens at the Brandenburger Tor. "Of course, we had bad luck with the weather," said Bergmann. During some games, the Fanzones were closed due to thunderstorms. For future football tournaments like EM and WM, it is sensible to broadcast every game again, said the event gastronom.
