Accident - Failure to overtake near Bahretal - one seriously injured

A 30-year-old motorcycle rider was seriously injured on the A17 near Bahretal during an unsuccessful overtaking maneuver.

On Tuesday evening, the 30-year-old attempted to overtake a truck on the two-lane autobahn and saw a fast approaching car on the left lane, according to a police spokesperson. When the motorcycle rider realized this, he tried to abort the overtaking maneuver, swerved and collided with the back of the truck. The man sustained serious injuries as a result. A rescue helicopter transported him to a hospital.

The truck driver and the following car continued their journey without stopping, according to police statements. Whether they will be investigated for hit-and-run is still to be determined, the spokesperson added.

The A17 towards Dresden was closed for approximately an hour due to the accident.

The police in Saxony are urging drivers to be more cautious after multiple traffic accidents on the A17 lately. Despite the accident, it's important for motorists to maintain a safe distance and avoid risky overtaking maneuvers. The police are also investigating if the drivers involved in this specific accident should be charged with hit-and-run. Regardless, traffic in Saxony continues to face challenges due to frequent motorcycle accidents on its highways.
