Faeser views security prepared for the upcoming European Football Championship.

The day before the start of the European Football Championship in Germany, Interior Minister Nancy Faeser stated that the security forces were adequately prepared. She added that, although there were no concrete threat situations at the moment, they still needed to be vigilant due to possible dangers from Islamic extremism, the ongoing Russian aggression war against Ukraine, and tensions in the Gaza Strip. They were also monitoring the actions of hooligans.

At a welcome event in Bamberg, Faeser welcomed over 300 police officers from various European countries whose national teams are participating in the championship. These foreign forces would be working alongside the German security forces and acting as liaisons for their fans. Faeser stressed the importance of being extra alert to potential cyber attacks. She highlighted that all tickets for the matches would be digitally issued.

The European Championship officially kicks off on Friday night with the opening match between Germany and Scotland. The highly-anticipated final will take place at the Berlin Olympic Stadium on July 14th.
