Enhanced border management or stronger border regulations - Faeser engages in discussions with nations and the Union regarding increased denials.
The delegates from the traffic light coalition, the Union, and the federal states convened at the Federal Ministry of Interior for fresh discourses concerning enhanced management and control of migration. The Union stipulated that thorough expulsions at the borderlines should be integrated into these discussions as well. Upon arriving at the ministry, Thorsten Frei, Union faction's parliamentary manager, reported that Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD) had clarified earlier via phone what was essential for initiating such a dialogue. However, Frei also mentioned that there were remarks from the coalition that provoked uncertainty, he continued.
According to Frei, "the prerequisites we previously agreed upon collectively aren't in place." Yet, given the necessity to tackle migration-related challenges effectively, the Union was also resolute in offering solutions.
Deputy for the SPD faction, Dirk Wiese, expressed a desire to discuss "legally sound expulsions" in addition to other topics such as the authorities' powers.
Despite Frei's assertion of unmet prerequisites, the Union still propounded the idea of a dialogue. However, the rejection of their application for certain conditions to be met before starting discussions caused a stalemate in the negotiations.
