- Faerer proposes specific border measures for certain asylum applicants.
Representatives from the traffic light coalition, along with the Union and the federal states, have gathered for talks on improving migration control and management. As per reports from government sources, Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD) suggested that in future, if someone seeks asylum after an illegal entry, the Federal Police should use the Eurodac identification database to check if another EU member state is responsible for handling the asylum process. If this is the case, the police could then request the asylum-seeker's detention due to flight risk at the appropriate court, provided there are detention facilities available. The Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (Bamf) could then initiate a fast-track process for the responsible country to take charge of the case, in accordance with the Dublin rules. If detention isn't an option, a binding allocation and residence requirement should be enforced instead.
The Union set a condition for the meeting that they wanted to discuss strengthened border rejections. Upon arriving at the ministry, the Union faction's parliamentary manager, Thorsten Frei, mentioned that Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD) had already highlighted the prerequisites required for the Union to partake in such a discussion. However, statements from the coalition raised doubts about whether the SPD, FDP, and Greens are in agreement on this matter.
Frei pointed out that "the necessary conditions aren't really met." Nevertheless, he stated that it's crucial to address migration challenges effectively, and the Union is committed to participating in these efforts. SPD faction vice Dirk Wiese mentioned that they wanted to discuss "lawful border rejections" and other topics, such as the authority of security agencies.
The Union's focus on strengthened border rejections aligns with the broader discussion on migration control and management, as highlighted by Nancy Faeser. Frei emphasized the importance of meeting the necessary conditions to effectively address migration challenges.
