Inclusion - Expert Practitioner - New Training for People with Disabilities
With a new training offering, young people with disabilities in North Rhine-Westphalia will soon become "Specialist Practitioners" in Service, Care or Household in Germany. This offer is aimed at people for whom a regular vocational training in a recognized profession is not an option due to the type and severity of their disability, the Labor and Social Ministry announced.
The training "Specialist Practitioner/in Household and Person-oriented Services" combines contents of Household and Person Care. It qualifies for jobs in Service, Care and support of daily life for Seniors, Youth and Children, as well as for Household in social and healthcare institutions or companies.
More practice, less theory
For the first time, these areas have been combined into a uniform Federal Specialist Practitioner training. In the training, practical contents are given greater emphasis, while theory is reduced. This particularly benefits trainees with a learning disability, it was stated. The new vocational profession is expected to be offered for the first time from the training year 2025/2026.
The great potential of people with disabilities must finally be recognized in times of labor shortage, said NRW Labor Minister Karl-Joseph Laumann (CDU). "Young people with learning disabilities are often excluded from regular training, although they have strong practical skills that they can contribute." All parties involved benefit from their inclusion.
- The new training program in Düsseldorf, North Rhine-Westphalia, specifically targets individuals with disabilities who have been previously excluded from regular vocational training due to their conditions in the labor market.
- This new Federal Specialist Practitioner training, which is set to start from the 2025/2026 academic year, will be particularly beneficial for trainees with learning disabilities, given its emphasis on practical skills over theory.
- The integration of people with disabilities into the labor market, as shown by this new training offering, is not only beneficial for the individuals themselves but also contributes positively to the social and economic landscape of the labor market in North Rhine-Westphalia.
