- Experiencing elevated temperatures and enhanced risk of weather-related dangers
The initial weeks of autumn initiate with comfortable temperatures, yet incorporate stormy weather threats. "Since dawn, a significant mass of tempests has been active over Bavaria, leading to spotty rainfall in the heavy thunderstorm category. Later in the day, these tempests will relocate to the heart of the nation, and fresh thunderstorms will emerge in the western zones," reports meteorologist Marcus Beyer from the German Weather Service in Offenbach.
A potential danger is excessive rainfall. "This is due to two factors. Firstly, the abundant moisture-laden air masses laden with copious water droplets within the clouds. Secondly, the significant atmospheric pressure gradients contribute to the thunderstorms' stationary nature, resulting in heavy rainfall concentrated over the same region without much movement," states Beyer. Frequent bursts of rain up to the extreme category cannot be ruled out. However, it is uncertain to pinpoint the exact location for this. "Where the intense downpour strikes, there's the chance of localized flooding."
Weather Prediction Summary
On Tuesday, Eastern Germany and the Alpine foothills, not directly facing the Alps, will experience clear skies and sunshine. Meanwhile, initially in the west and later spreading towards the east, intense thunderstorms with significant weather risks, including occasional extreme heavy rain, will develop. During the afternoon, the western regions will be peaceful and mostly dry, whereas the east will bask in temperatures around 34 degrees, with the remaining areas remaining pleasant and warm at 25 to 30 degrees.
On Wednesday, only the far eastern and southeastern corners will see sunshine and dry conditions. In the western areas, however, it will rain. In the rest of the regions, powerful thunderstorms with significant weather risks, up to the extreme category in some locales, will form. In the western half, the highest temperatures will hover around 20 to 25 degrees, whereas further east, the mercury will climb to 25 to 34 degrees.
On Thursday, the sky will be partially cloudy, with localized intense thunderstorms expected in the afternoon. In the east, light rainfall is projected. The temperatures will rise to 21 to 28 degrees, registering the lowest values in the west and northwest.
Other regions may also experience heavy rainfall due to the relocation of storms. If the intense downpour continues, it could lead to other areas facing the risk of localized flooding.
