Gas exit - Exit from Sondershausen Gas - People evacuated
Multiple people were evacuated from Sondershausen (Kyffhäuserkreis) due to a gas leak. A nearby kindergarten was partially cleared out, according to the police. Emergency services from the fire department and police were called to a multi-family house because residents had detected a gas smell. During the searches, several propane cylinders from a camping stove were found. According to the police, they were not properly stored, causing the gas to leak.
The fire department then ventilated the house. After approximately an hour, there was reportedly no danger and the residents returned to their apartments. The kindergarten was also reopened. No one was injured.
The gas leak originated from the malfunctioning natural gas system inside the multi-family house in Sondershausen. The emergency response team from Thuringia's Fire Department was instrumental in controlling the situation by ventilating the place and ensuring the gas exit. In the ensuing investigation, the police found unsecured propane cylinders as the probable cause of the gas leak at Sondershausen's kindergarten.
