Exiled opposition activist dies after assassination attempt in Kiev
Aydos Sadykov is considered a sharp critic of Kazakhstani President Tokayev. For years, the blogger has lived in exile in Ukraine, with Kazakhstan issuing a warrant for his arrest. Nearly two weeks ago, in Kiev, he was shot. Sadly, Sadykov has now succumbed to his injuries.
Two weeks after the shooting of the Kazakh opposition figure Aydos Sadykov, who had been living in exile in Ukraine, his wife Natalia Sadykova announced his death. She held President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev responsible for her husband's death, who had granted him asylum in Ukraine in 2014.
"Aidos Sadykov died today at 3:00 AM Kiev Time," his wife wrote in online networks. She mourned her "beloved husband, father of our three children." He had "given his life to Kazakhstan and suffered a martyr's death at the hands of murderers." "Tokayev bears the responsibility for his death," she added on Facebook. Sadykova was with her husband in a car in Kiev when two men shot at him in broad daylight.
According to the Ukrainian Prosecutor's Office, the killers had "meticulously planned the murder," and then fled to Moldova. Tokayev's spokesperson reportedly told Russian news agencies after the shooting on Sadykov that the President had instructed Kazakhstani authorities to collaborate with Ukraine in finding the fleeing suspects.
Sadykov and his wife ran a well-known online channel that was extremely critical of Tokayev. On the video platform YouTube, more than a million users follow him. In Kazakhstan, he had been wanted by the police since last year.
The assassination of Aydos Sadykov, a vocal critic of Kazakhstan's President Tokayev, resulted in his death in Kiev after being shot two weeks ago. Despite receiving asylum in Ukraine in 2014, Sadykov's wife Natalia Sadykova pointed fingers at President Tokayev for her husband's demise in a heartfelt post on social media.
