- Ex-spouse allegedly assaults woman with a knife in public area, according to law enforcement.
A 36-year-old lady reportedly met her end at the hands of her ex-spouse with a knife on a road in Berlin-Zehlendorf. The woman sustained severe wounds from stabbings and cuts, as the public prosecutor's office announced. Despite initial attempts to revive her and perform surgery in the hospital, she eventually passed away there.
The 50-year-old ex-husband of the deceased was apprehended by the police. At present, they are considering a passionate crime charge, also known as "femicide" or supposedly an "injured honor" incident, which allegedly involved a man avenging his former wife for leaving him, as the public prosecutor's office spokesperson informed dpa. Both the suspect and the victim are of Lebanese origin and share four children.
Sebastian Büchner, the public prosecutor's office spokesperson, shared with the "B.Z." newspaper that beyond the motive, they believe the perpetrator felt his honor was tarnished by the separation, prompting him to take her life.
Previously, there had been numerous instances of domestic abuse against the woman by the man during their marriage. Subsequently, the woman opted for separation and secured restraining and protection orders through the court. However, the ex-husband is believed to have ambushed her outside her door and assaulted her.
The lethal assault occurred on the pavement in front of a living quarters building on Hampstead Street, as reported by the police and public prosecutor's office. A murder investigation unit within the State Criminal Police Office (LKA) is currently investigating the case.
As per "B.Z." and "Berliner Zeitung" reports, around 50 people congregated outside the hospital. Büchner declined to comment on this, but mentioned: "I cannot confirm any ties to a clan."
The police arrested the suspect in connection with the woman's death. The investigators are considering whether this incident could be classified as a hate crime due to the victim's gender and the alleged motive of "injured honor."
