Eurowings averts strike by ground staff on Mallorca
Mallorca-Tourists can breathe a sigh of relief: Eurowings airline has averted strikes by its ground personnel at Palma airport. An agreement was reached with the subsidiary "Wings Handling" on Friday, according to the company in Cologne. This improvement of employees' working conditions as well as the consideration of the company's competitiveness were mentioned in the agreement, which has a duration of two years.
The trade union GVA had initially called for strikes from the 265 employees starting from next Monday (1st July). This would have endangered the processing of hundreds of Mallorca flights during the peak tourist season. Eurowings announced, among other things, the conversion of part-time contracts and additional summer leave. Eurowings, a Lufthansa subsidiary, flies the most connections from Germany to the Balearic Island.
Eurowings managed to prevent a strike by its ground staff, which was set to begin on July 1st, thanks to an agreement with subsidiary "Wings Handling". This agreement, valid for two years, aims to enhance employees' working conditions and maintain the company's competitiveness, potentially saving numerous Mallorca flights during the vacationer-filled peak season.
