European Football Championship: Interior Ministry Reports Initial Favorable Assessments

The European Football Championship kickoff is met with approval from the Federal Interior Ministry. Preliminary assessments show that security measures are proving effective, according to ministry spokesperson Maximilian Kall. However, there have been certain incidents, one notably in Gelsenkirchen, involving violent football supporters.

Local law enforcement efficiently managed the altercation between Serbian and English football fans in the city center of North Rhine-Westphalia on Sunday afternoon.

With around twelve million visitors anticipated throughout the tournament, the European Championship poses a significant security hurdle. This was already anticipated before the initial match on Friday, as noted by the spokesperson, who mentioned that in addition to state police, 22,000 federal police are actively deployed for the EM each day.
