EU Council Head Disapproves of China's Absence at Ukraine Peace Summit

The EU's leader, Charles Michel, voiced his disappointment at China's decision to skip the Ukraine peace conference in Switzerland during the recent G7 summit in Italy. He expressed this on Thursday while attending a gathering of top leaders from the leading democratic industrial nations.

China had previously declared its intention to not be part of the Ukraine peace parley organized by Switzerland. According to the Foreign Ministry of China, there is a significant disconnect between the conference's design and the demands of both China and the international community as a whole, thus making it quite challenging for the Asian nation to join.

Approximately 40 heads of state and government have confirmed their attendance at the upcoming Ukraine peace conference this weekend. It is anticipated that delegates from 90 different countries and organizations will be present. Russia, who launched a military assault on Ukraine in February 2022, is not attending. Moscow simply dismissed the event as a propaganda exercise orchestrated by the Western world.
