EU competition authorities search food suppliers
The EU competition authorities have raided several food delivery services in two EU countries. There is a suspicion that the service providers may have violated EU competition law, they said. EU investigators had already searched the offices of delivery services in July 2022.
The current raids concerned further possible violations of competition law, such as the exchange of information between companies, the EU Commission has now announced. It did not name the companies involved. Delivery Hero and its Spanish subsidiary Glovo had confirmed searches last year. The EU Commission can impose fines of up to ten percent of annual turnover for breaches of EU competition law.
The raids by the EU competition watchdog could potentially lead to fines for any food delivery service found guilty of exchanging sensitive information, as this practice may violate EU competition law. This ongoing investigation highlights the importance of adhering to competition laws in the fiercely competitive food delivery market.
