Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, said she's in favor of launching EU accession talks with Ukraine by the end of June. Von der Leyen made this statement while attending an international reconstruction conference for Ukraine in Berlin. She stated, "As Ukraine has completed all the necessary reforms, we believe that EU accession negotiations with Ukraine should start by this month's end."

Ukraine is currently considered a potential EU member. A European Union summit in December made the decision to initiate accession talks with Ukraine. There's currently no fixed date for these negotiations, however. Certain nations, like Hungary, have extra requirements that need to be met.

On another note, von der Leyen disclosed at the conference that Ukraine will receive an additional 1.9 billion euros from the new Ukraine support program worth up to 50 billion euros by the month's end. This financial aid will help Ukraine recover economically, rebuild, and modernize, according to von der Leyen.
