Environmental protesters halt their hunger strike in Berlin.

A group of 8 activists carried out a hunger strike in hopes of provoking Germany's Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, into addressing the climate crisis through a government statement. However, their hunger strike seems to have fallen on deaf ears as their protest has now come to an end.

The protest group "Hunger until you're honest" has announced the end of their hunger strike in Berlin. The activists wanted Chancellor Scholz to publicly admit that the very existence of our civilization is in danger, with current levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere being dangerously high, leaving no more room for CO2 emissions. To achieve this, they demanded radical change. The activist Wolfgang Metzeler-Kick initiated the action on March 7th and went without food for a total of 92 days, while his comrade Richard Cluse abstained from solid food for 77 days.

Other participants joined them later and maintained their hunger strike for varying periods of time. Each drank fluids other than juices, such as water and electrolytes, to replace lost energy. The hunger strikers also consumed juices, electrolytes, and vitamins to keep going. Metzeler-Kick and another activist, Adrian Lack, had originally chosen to stop drinking juice for a while but eventually had to be hospitalized due to a collapse. Metzeler-Kick later resumed eating, marking a brief pause in the action. The hunger strikers had been holding out until they received positive signals from politics.

The activists are now criticizing the media for not providing sufficient coverage and for misrepresenting their demands. Adrian Lack, who joined the hunger strike for 37 days, stated, "The media hasn't given enough attention to our cause and often misrepresented what we're asking for."

Looks like Scholz's silence and media's lack of coverage have prompted the activists to call it quits on their hunger strike.
