Consumer protection - Energy costs continue to worry consumers

Energy topics continue to pose problems and questions for consumers in Brandenburg, according to a spokesperson for the Consumer Center. The demand for consultations on this topic remains high at the Consumer Center. More than one in two consultations last year dealt with this issue. High demands for payment for electricity and gas were often the reason for the consultation.

The Consumer Center reportedly had nearly 65,000 contacts with consultation seekers last year, according to their own statements. In addition, over 15,000 lengthy consultation sessions were reported by the Consumer Center. "Consumers have rights," said Social Minister Ursula Nonnemacher (Greens). Enforcing these rights can sometimes be challenging. "The Consumer Center reliably helps in this regard." It takes legal action against companies that do not adhere to applicable law and implements consumer-friendly regulations.

The Consumer Center in Brandenburg, known for its significant role, has seen a high influx of consultations related to energy costs during the energy crisis. Potsdam, the capital city of Brandenburg, is not excluded from this trend. The Consumer Protection agency is actively working to ensure the rights of consumers in the face of rising energy prices. Overwhelmingly, approximately 50% of the 65,000 consultations at the Consumer Center last year were related to this energy crisis issue. The high demand for these consultations is often triggered by the burdensome consumer goods, mainly electricity and gas bills.
