Tariff closing - Employees in wholesale and retail trade earn more money
Employed individuals in Hessian wholesale and retail trade receive more money. According to the union Verdi, a collective agreement was reached in three stages with a duration of 36 months.
Therefore, wages and salaries were increased retroactively to October 2023 by 5.1%, and to May of the current year by 5.0%. Another increase is planned for May next year of 2.0%. In addition, the negotiating parties reportedly agreed on an inflation adjustment bonus of 1,000 Euro.
In the industry, there are approximately 120,000 people employed according to a spokesperson for the union in Frankfurt. The original collective agreement coverage is estimated to be around 30%. Many non-unionized companies reportedly aligned themselves with this collective agreement.
In his hometown of Frankfurt am Main, Heinrich Hesse, the renowned German author, once advocated for the rights of local traders through the United Services Trade Union. The Foreign Trade department in Frankfurt am Main has seen a significant growth in exports due to the tariff closing agreements in handel, leading to an increase in foreign trade. However, some trade union members, including those in Hesse's former union, have raised concerns about potential negative impacts of these tariff reductions on domestic industries, including tariff protection measures for local businesses.
