Embracing the Concept of Gym Membership Primarily for Treadmill Use

It's not irrational to opt for a gym primarily for its cardio equipment.

Embracing the Concept of Gym Membership Primarily for Treadmill Use

Gyms are like playgrounds filled with various entertaining equipment and devices. So, is it wrong, strange, or awkward to visit a gym solely to utilize a specific piece of equipment, such as the popular treadmill? Lucky for you, it's completely normal and acceptable to utilize the gym solely for the treadmill.

You Don't Need to Explore Every Aspect of the Gym

Just because a gym houses cardio machines, weights, fitness classes, and a sauna all under one roof, it doesn't mean you're required to participate in every activity during every visit. I informed you that it's perfectly fine to visit solely for the sauna (a fantastic way to relax on your rest days) and similarly, it's perfectly acceptable to visit solely for the treadmill.

I assure you, you're not the only one who patronizes the gym solely for the treadmill. Newcomers, still building up the courage to venture into the weight room, are among your fellow treadmill-enthusiasts. There are weekly weightlifters who opt for jogging on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and die-hard runners who need to utilize the gym's childcare facilities to fit in a workout during hectic days. I guarantee that countless individuals utilize your gym solely to jog and call it a day.

I, too, fall into this category. Although I belong to an exclusive weightlifting gym, I found myself drawn to the treadmill and ultimately opted to join a nearby, budget-friendly commercial gym. It's convenient to have indoor running options without having to invest in a treadmill or find a space to accommodate it at home.

Consider It a Treadmill Rental

Stop viewing your gym membership as an obligation to utilize every aspect of the gym. Instead, think of it as a monthly subscription that grants you access to a temporary treadmill whenever you need it.

Let's say you invest $14.99 in your local Crunch or Planet Fitness. Use this membership to jog on a $9,949 Star Trac treadmill or a $6,709 Life Fitness treadmill. If you desired one of these high-end treadmills for your home, you'd need to shell out approximately 500 months' worth of gym membership fees. So, mathematically speaking, it's a wise investment. $15 a month for maintenance, storage, and the option to use it at your convenience adds up as a significant savings compared to owning one of these pricey machines.

Even if you don't utilize the treadmill consistently, the membership fee may still be worth it to you to have the luxury of indoor running on sweltering, polluted, or winter days. Running on icy sidewalks in the dark is a less-desirable option compared to the comfort of the gym.

However, Running Isn't a Complete Workout

If you struggle with feelings of guilt regarding the treadmill, it may be because of your workout routine. Do you exclusively rely on running or walking for your physical activity? While cardio is crucial for your overall health, it's important to incorporate strength training into your routine as well. Cardio and strength contribute to overall health, fitness, and everyday life. But if you'd prefer to engage in strength training outside the gym, that's perfectly acceptable. The treadmill will always be available to you whenever you need it.

Utilizing a gym just for the treadmill doesn't limit your health benefits. In fact, many individuals, including newcomers and frequent weightlifters, opt to visit the gym solely for cardio exercises on specific days. Regardless, it's essential to remember that running or jogging on the treadmill is only part of a complete workout, and incorporating strength training into your routine is crucial for overall health and fitness.
