North Rhine-Westphalia - Eleven-year-old gives birth to a child by her stepfather - and exonerates him to the police

He could be the youngest mother in Germany: A 13-year-old girl from Siegen-Wittgenstein has given birth. Her stepfather was identified as the biological father. The prosecutor's office is now investigating. The girl exonerates the man, however: She claims she wanted to self-inseminate.

This version is not entirely ruled out, but the investigators consider it unlikely. The girl allegedly obtained the information for artificial insemination on the internet. However, a high degree of medical precision is necessary for its implementation, experts told the newspaper of their skepticism regarding this version.

How did the pregnancy occur?

Although this version is not entirely excluded, investigators consider it unlikely. The girl is said to have obtained the information for artificial insemination from the internet. However, a high degree of medical precision is necessary for its implementation, experts told the newspaper of their skepticism regarding this version.

However, proofs for a sexual abuse of the girl might be hard to obtain. No detention order has been issued for the stepfather yet.

Pregnancy hidden

The family's handling of the pregnancy did not seem to help them in dealing with the authorities: Regular doctor visits and preventive check-ups, which are common in pregnancies, were not taken advantage of by the family. The girl tried to hide the pregnancy, always wearing more clothes. At some point, attentive teachers grew suspicious, informed the Youth Welfare Office. When the pregnancy was officially confirmed, the girl was in her 32nd week.

After the birth, "mother and child are doing well," the spokesperson of the prosecutor's office told the "Siegener Zeitung." However, neither mother nor child are: The infant was placed with a foster family by the Youth Welfare Office, and the girl is in a psychological treatment facility.

Whether it is the youngest mother in Germany is unclear. The lowest documented age at birth in Germany is 12 years old. However, the documented youngest birth age worldwide is significantly lower: The Peruvian Lina Medina gave birth to her first son in 1939 at the age of 5.
