Electric car drivers are again more satisfied with their vehicles
Drivers of electric vehicles (EVs) are more satisfied with their vehicles this year compared to last year, according to a study. While 41% recommended their brand last year, this number has increased to 43%, Uscale, a consulting and market research firm, reported on Thursday. There have been measurable improvements in range and charging performance.
There are significant differences in the willingness to recommend among different brands, Uscale found. 71% of those surveyed would recommend their Tesla to friends or colleagues. Porsche (64% recommendation), BMW (62%), and Hyundai (56%) also performed well above average. In contrast, these figures are much lower for Peugeot (3%), Citroën (4%), and Opel (10%) under the Stellantis umbrella.
The study results show that the range and charging performance of the examined EVs have improved compared to last year. 38% of the vehicles now have a real summer range of 400 kilometers or more, up from 27% in 2023. Charging performance has also increased, with 61% of vehicles now having a charging capacity of 150 kilowatts or more (45% last year).
However, customer expectations have also increased. Fewer people rated a range of 400 kilometers as "very good" compared to last year, and only one in five rated the 150 kilowatt charging performance as such.
For the study, nearly 5,000 users of purely electric cars in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland were surveyed. These were recruited via online networks.
The improved range and charging performance of electric vehicles have led to an increase in driver satisfaction, resulting in higher recommendation rates for certain brands. For instance, Tesla has a recommendation rate of 71%, significantly higher than Peugeot, Citroën, and Opel under Stellantis, which have rates of 3%, 4%, and 10% respectively.
Despite the improvements, customer expectations have also risen, with fewer people considering a 400-kilometer range as "very good" compared to last year, and only one in five rating the 150-kilowatt charging performance in the same manner.
