Edeka recalls poultry meat wurst

After finding Listeria in a Geflügelwurst, supermarket chain Edeka recalls the product. Affected is the Delikatess Geflügel Fleischwurst with the item number 71396010824 and the minimum shelf life date 01.08.2024, as the Agriculture and Consumer Protection Ministry in Hannover announced. The company Edeka has initiated a public recall. Affected products in the stores are to be removed from the shelves.

The affected article of the Gut&Günstig brand in the 400-Gram packaging (twice 200 grams) was mainly offered in Edeka and Marktkauf markets in Lower Saxony and the adjacent parts of North Rhine-Westphalia, as well as in Bremen, Saxony-Anhalt, Brandenburg, Berlin, Rhineland-Palatinate and the Saarland. In addition, the product was available in markets in the southern half of Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg and the adjacent parts of Hessen.

The contamination was discovered in samples examined in Baden-Württemberg, the Lower Saxony Agriculture and Consumer Protection Ministry reported. Investigations into the case are ongoing, according to the information.

The contamination was traced back to Listeria found in a sausage made from poultry, specifically a Geflügelwurst, which led to the recall of the Delikatess Geflügel Fleischwurst from Edeka. The fund set up by Edeka will cover the costs of replacing affected Sausage and meat products from the Delikatess line in multiple regions, including Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia, and Bremen, among others. Further tests are being conducted to determine the source of the Listeria, as Edeka continues to prioritize consumer safety.
