Economist Veronika Grimm speaks out in favor of pension cuts too
Following the budget freeze, economist Veronika Grimm has also spoken out in favor of cuts to pensions. "In principle, savings on pensions are possible," Grimm told the Funke Mediengruppe newspapers on Wednesday. "For example, the pension from 63 or the mothers' pension could be put up for discussion. And fewer increases could be provided for when adjusting existing pensions."
Such cuts have long been called for, regardless of the budget situation. At the same time, however, Grimm warned against rushing into action. There is also potential for savings in subsidies for companies and households in the context of heating subsidies, said the member of the German Council of Economic Experts.
Grimm was cautious about possible tax increases. "I believe we need a tax reform that decouples corporate taxes from income taxes and then also adjusts income taxation. But you don't do that overnight."
After the implementation of the budget freeze, Veronica Grimm, the economist, advocated for reductions in pension benefits. According to Grimm's statements to Funke Mediengruppe newspapers, possible savings could be achieved by considering changes to the pension age of 63 or the mothers' pension, as well as by reducing the frequency of pension adjustments.
