The current Prime Minister of Britain - Early departure of D-Day turns into a mess for Sunak

Rishi Sunak, the British Prime Minister, is facing intense criticism and ridicule following his premature departure from France for the 80th anniversary of the D-Day commemorations. This blunder come just a few weeks before the scheduled parliamentary election on July 4th and could be disastrous for his campaign.

Sunak and his Conservatives are already trailing behind the Labour opposition in the polls, and his campaign so far has been uninspiring.

On D-Day, Sunak made an early exit from a ceremony in Normandy, where he attended with French President Emmanuel Macron and the British royal couple. However, during an international commemoration with US President Joe Biden, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, and other guests, Sunak's Foreign Minister, David Cameron, stood in for him. The Prime Minister, on the other hand, granted a campaign interview to a television station.

Despite his apology, the backlash has been severe. "He's abandoning the country," remarked 98-year-old D-Day veteran Ken Hay on Sky News. Minister for Veterans Johnny Mercer, a friend of Sunak's, couldn't defend the decision either. "I understand the outrage. It's a mistake. A major mistake, for which he has apologized," emphasized Mercer. Nigel Farage, a Brexit campaigner and unexpected Conservative candidate, also criticized Sunak's premature exit. Sunak's departure disrespected the USA, which had lost thousands of soldiers during the Normandy landings on June 6, 1944. 'He's not patriotic,' sniped the right-wing populist, who is eyeing voter support from the right side of the party.

The incident also sparked a flurry of memes on social media, which featured photoshopped images of Sunak with a suitcase in front of war memorials.
