- Eager 15-year-old yearns for another chance to operate a bus.
A 15-year-old from Bremen made another attempt to operate a public bus, but this time his scheme fell flat. Last Friday, the kid pretended to be a staff member from the security team of the Bremen/Lower Saxony transport association (VBN) on a bus in Delmenhorst, as the police shared. He claimed that the 15-year-old who had illegally driven a public bus in Bremen back in early August was on board. Equipped with a headset, the teenager ordered the 32-year-old bus driver to halt and disembark all passengers. According to the police, the bus driver adhered to the commands.
The ruse was uncovered
When the supposed VBN employee attempted to pilot the bus himself, the bus driver placed an emergency call. Upon the arrival of the police and an employee from the bus company, the scam was unmasked. The 15-year-old was recognized as the same teenager who had driven a public bus with passengers in Bremen in early August.
At that time, the teenager had presented himself to a bus driver as a trainee from a bus company. After the tour, he left the bus on his own and resumed the journey. At a bus stop, he invited unsuspecting passengers, who thought they were dealing with a regular bus driver. At that point, the police had revealed that the boy was autistic and wanted to explore his passion for vehicles and technology.
Since the teenager did not operate the bus in Delmenhorst, his actions are unlikely to incur legal penalties, as the police added. The 15-year-old was picked up by his father from the Delmenhorst police station.
The bus driver realized the situation and placed an emergency call, involving the police and a bus company employee. Upon their arrival, the boy's attempt to operate the bus once again was thwarted, as the buses he had been attempting to commandeer became a recurring element in his schemes.
