DWD has issued a warning for heat and severe thunderstorms

The German Weather Service (DWD) has issued a warning for heat and heavy thunderstorms. In northern and southwestern Germany, strong heat load is expected during Thursday, according to the DWD in Offenbach. In addition, throughout the country, except for the west and northeast, powerful thunderstorms are possible. Where there are thunderstorms, according to DWD, local heavy rain and hail are likely. Locally, extremely heavy weather with over 60 liters of rain per square meter is possible.

According to the weather service, the thunderstorms from the southwest to the center will quickly subside in the night to Friday. In the north and northeast, strong thunderstorms with heavy rain, possible hail, and strong gusts are expected. At the Upper Rhine and in the east of the country, a "Tropical Night" with temperatures slightly over 20 degrees Celsius is expected.

  1. The DWD has warned of heavy thunderstorms in northern and southwestern Germany, particularly during the evening, when the storms are likely to originate from the southwest and move towards the center.
  2. In contrast to the rest of the country, the west and northeast regions are expected to remain free of thunderstorms, although a "Tropical Night" with temperatures exceeding 20 degrees Celsius may occur in the Upper Rhine and eastern parts.
  3. As the thunderstorms subside overnight from Friday, the north and northeast regions will experience strong thunderstorms with heavy rain, hail, and strong winds, while the southern and western parts may start to see a decrease in heat load.
