People's Festival at the Rhine - Düsseldorf Rhine carnival has started

With the Rhine Fair in Düsseldorf, one of the largest folk festivals in North Rhine-Westphalia has begun. The kick-off in the afternoon was initially cautious due to the gray and rainy weather. The organizers expect four million visitors, both female and male, in the next ten days until July 21. Over 300 booths are on the Rhine meadows in the Oberkassel district.

Besides well-known carousels and roller coasters, there are nine new attractions on the approximately 165,000 square meter large fairground. Among them is a special highlight: a mobile observation platform celebrating its world premiere. Guests can enjoy the view of Düsseldorf in glass cabins over 70 meters high and listen to information about the city via an audio guide.

"Largest Rhine Fair"

Additionally, there is a new children's roller coaster and a five-level running shop for young and old. In the culinary sector, there are new offerings, including a mobile ice cream company that works with nitrogen. Of course, the Altbier is not missing at the "largest Rhine Fair" according to their own claims. Seven Altbier breweries are present with their own sales stands.

The fair is open Monday through Friday from 2 p.m., Saturdays from 1 p.m., and Sundays from 11 a.m. It closes from Sundays to Thursdays at midnight. Fridays and Saturdays it is open until 2 a.m.

Fireworks as a highlight

The city of Düsseldorf recommends using public transportation for travel to and from the fairgrounds. No parking spaces are available in the immediate vicinity of the fairgrounds, and numerous resident streets will be closed for traffic during the fair. On almost all lines, there will be increased service during the ten days. Trains will run every two minutes to the Haltestelle Luegplatz at the fairgrounds. Buses and trains will also be in operation in the surrounding cities deep into the night and in short distances.

The over 700-year-old St. Sebastianus Shooting Club celebrates the name day of its patron saint, St. Apollinaris (July 23). The "Historical Parade" on July 14 is worth seeing, with over 3,000 uniformed shooters and music bands, which is one of the largest in Germany. The large fairground fireworks take place on the last fair Friday (July 19, 2024) starting at 10:30 p.m.

The showman at the mobile observation platform entertains guests with stories about Düsseldorf's rich history as they enjoy the city view.
