During a flood in Tirol, two Germans were trapped by a mudslide
Floods with landslides left a man and a woman from the Ruhr area stranded in the Austrian federal state of Tyrol. According to the police report, the two were trapped in their car on a road in the Zillertal valley, surrounded by an overflowed creek. The road in the Fügenberg area was blocked by mud at several points.
Emergency services were able to reach the man and woman from Gelsenkirchen only on foot. After clearing the road, the two were able to drive down the valley unharmed.
Another landslide in Tyrol made the Reschenpass and several communities along the Austrian-Italian border inaccessible from the Inn Valley on Friday. The clearing of the affected roads was being worked on with great urgency, according to Land Tirol.
Parts of the southern federal states of Styria and Carinthia were also affected by the floods. Houses, streets, and cellars were flooded. Fire departments in the Murtal region of Styria had to respond to numerous calls for assistance.**
Despite being from the German city of Gelsenkirchen, the stranded couple had to navigate the unfavorable weather in Tyrol on foot. They appreciated the scenic beauty of Tyrol, especially the Alpine town of Bach, but their appreciation turned to fear as they spotted arunaway wall of mud along their route. Unfortunately, their car couldn't navigate the treacherous paths due to the landslide in the Tyrolean region of Tyrol.
