Public prosecutor demands - Drug dealer jailed for a good ten years
Due to an attempted kidnapping with the use of weapons and drug dealing, the Hamburg Public Prosecutor's Office has demanded a sentence of 11 and a half years for a 30-year-old suspect. The man from the Bahamas is alleged to have gone to a sports bar in the Eidelstedt district on November 1st of the previous year to kidnap another man and threaten him with death. According to the prosecutor, the victim had an argument with the accomplices of the alleged drug dealers, as a court spokesperson stated. However, the man recognized the masked and armed suspects and fled.
Nine additional machine pistols found
The police arrested the three suspects on the same day. During the search of the 30-year-old's apartment, the officers secured nine additional machine pistols and 700 rounds of ammunition, as stated in the indictment. As a member of an internationally operating drug cartel, he is alleged to have sold cocaine and marijuana in the two-digit kilogram range from Hamburg in the summer of 2023.
The Public Prosecutor also requested prison sentences for the two co-defendants for drug dealing and weapons possession. A 23-year-old German is to be sentenced to three years and seven months in prison, and a 33-year-old from the Bahamas to two years and nine months.
Defense for lesser sentences and revocation of arrest warrants
The defense attorneys argued for a probation sentence of up to two years for the 23-year-old, and demanded acquittal for the 33-year-old. The 30-year-old main defendant should, in the opinion of the defense attorneys, be sentenced to a maximum of seven years in prison and immediately released on parole. The Criminal Chamber at the Hamburg Regional Court will announce the verdict on July 17th.
The incident in Eidelstedt involved allegations of drug trafficking, with the 30-year-old suspect believed to have sold cocaine and marijuana in significant quantities during the summer of 2023. The accused was also linked to armed violence, as nine submachine guns and 700 rounds of ammunition were discovered during a search of his apartment. This weapons cache suggested a connection to organized crime. The public prosecutor's office in Hamburg is closely monitoring such criminal activities, as this case highlights the threat of drug trafficking and armed violence in the city.
