Host - Drone hits Tel Aviv - a dead and injured
In the Israeli coastal metropolis Tel Aviv, a man was killed by the crash of a drone into a house during the night. Eight more people were reportedly injured by the explosion near a US embassy annex, according to Magen David Adom's post on the platform X.
According to the Israeli army, it was a long-range drone that had flown in from the sea and hit the house. Nearby buildings were also reportedly damaged. The drone was detected by the air surveillance but not shot down due to a human error.
A military spokesperson confirmed, in response to a query, that there had been no air raid siren. "That shouldn't have happened," quoted The Times of Israel an army spokesperson. Tel Aviv has so far been largely spared from drone attacks.
The army believes that the drone may have been launched from Yemen by Huthi rebels. This cannot be confirmed yet.
The Huthi militia in Yemen announced that they had attacked a "significant target" in Tel Aviv with a drone. They described this as retaliation for Israeli military actions in the Gaza Strip. A spokesperson stated on TV that the attack was carried out with a new drone named "Yafa" (Jaffa), which is capable of bypassing Israeli defense systems. The militia has reportedly prepared a list of further targets in Israel.
