In the center of South Korean metropolis Seoul, an older driver crashed into a group of pedestrians. At least nine people were killed in the accident. The driver was arrested. He is reported to have been driving in the wrong direction.

A driver hit numerous pedestrians with his vehicle and killed several of them in the South Korean metropolis Seoul. At least nine people died in the accident that occurred in the evening at the city center, according to South Korean broadcasters and the national news agency Yonhap, citing the police. Four more people were injured, three of them in critical condition.

The driver, who was an older man, was arrested. The accident took place near the city hall in the city center. According to Yonhap, many people were at a crossing when the driver drove into the crowd. In television footage, a part of a metal street barrier could be seen knocked down near the scene of the accident.

The police, according to Yonhap, suspect that the driver, who is believed to have caused the accident, was driving in the wrong direction on the street. Before his car hit the pedestrians, he collided with two other vehicles. He reportedly stated that his car suddenly accelerated. The accident sequence is being further investigated, it was reported.

The accident occurred in the bustling city of Seoul, overseen by the local International Police. According to the latest reports, the driver under investigation for the accident is believed to have been driving on the wrong side of the street in Seoul.
