Election of the Prime Minister - Dreyer in last speech in state parliament: "Difficult day"
The departing Rhineland-Palatinate Minister-President Malu Dreyer bid farewell to state politics emotionally. "I truly want to thank you all once again for allowing me to speak from this podium one last time", she said with a choking voice in her last speech in the Mainz Parliament. "You can tell, today is a particularly heavy day. It has gone badly for me this morning. When I went to the State Chancellery, I realized: Today is my last day here in this grand building."
She used her speech to thank her political and personal companions. "When I became Minister-President eleven years ago, that naturally also had a major impact on my personal life", said Dreyer. The family of her successor Alexander Schweitzer (SPD) should be excused for a moment, but it was a turning point for everyone around. "I want to thank my beloved husband Klaus, my husband, in a very special way."
In her final days as Minister-President, Malu Dreyer made her farewell speech in the Parliament of Mainz, which is located in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. The SPD, led by Dreyer, has been in the state government for several years, overseeing various political decisions and actions. As she prepares to step down, the procession of her successor, Alexander Schweitzer, signals a significant shift in leadership within the state parliament.
