Dozens of Gaza locals are not allowed to enter Germany
Due to the war in the Gaza Strip, around 200 Palestinians working for German organizations have ended up in Egypt. However, according to a report, around half of them are not allowed to travel on to Germany. The reason is security concerns.
Dozens of Palestinian employees of German organizations in the Gaza Strip are not allowed to come to Germany due to security concerns. A spokesperson for the Federal Ministry of the Interior said in response to an inquiry that the security authorities are examining each individual case to determine whether there are security concerns for local employees and their families before making a final decision on admission.
As the magazine "Focus" writes, around half of the people failed interviews with the Office for the Protection of the Constitution in Egypt, where around 200 of the employees were taken. In comparable cases, the failure rate is around ten times lower. Many of the Gaza employees were found to have extremist anti-Semitic views.
The Federal Foreign Office told Focus that "a very small number of local employees, including their family members, were able to leave Gaza". However, many were unable to continue their journey from Egypt due to the security interviews. "The rate of those people who cannot expect to be admitted to Germany after a comprehensive examination is significantly higher here compared to other procedures in which people are admitted," the Federal Ministry of the Interior is quoted as saying by Focus.
At the end of November, the German government responded to a written question from Andrea Lindholz, deputy chairwoman of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group, stating that since the Hamas terrorist attack in Israel on October 7, 412 German citizens and their 152 spouses and children had been assisted with the aim of leaving the country, as well as a group of 186 people made up of local employees of German institutions in the Gaza Strip and their family members.

The German government has assisted 412 German citizens and their families, as well as 186 local employees of German institutions in the Gaza Strip, in efforts to leave the region following the Hamas terrorist attack in Israel. Some of these local employees and their families have been unable to continue their journey to Germany due to security interviews following extremist anti-Semitic views detected during interviews with the Office for the Protection of the Constitution in Egypt. This is a concern for local NGOs in the Gaza Strip, as they rely on German organizations for support and resources in the area, and the restrictions on employees could potentially hinder their operations.
