- Donald Trump talks about helicopter landing, but other passengers disagree
Donald Trump narrowly escaped an attack at his campaign event in Pennsylvania a few weeks ago. On Thursday, he reported another incident where his life may have been in danger during a helicopter flight with Willie Brown, the former California politician and ex-boyfriend of his rival, Vice President Kamala Harris. This was reported by "CNN" and the "New York Times" in agreement.
According to the reports, a reporter asked Trump about Harris' relationship with Brown and if it had benefited her career. Trump responded that he knew Brown "very well" and told a story about an alleged helicopter incident.
"We thought that might be the end. We were together in a helicopter on the way to a certain place, and there was an emergency landing," Trump said, according to "CNN". "That was not a pleasant landing, and Willie was a bit concerned. I know him, I know him quite well. I mean, I haven't seen him in years."
However, there are several issues with this story. Firstly, Trump is confusing Jerry Brown and Willie Brown. Jerry Brown is a former governor of California, white, and was on board the helicopter. Willie Brown was the mayor of San Francisco, black, and an ex-boyfriend of Harris. He was not on board the helicopter.
There was also no emergency landing, and the passengers of the helicopter were never in danger, according to California's Governor Gavin Newsom, who was also on the flight - writes the "New York Times". He told the newspaper laughing: "I call that complete nonsense."
Jerry Brown's spokesperson told the newspaper: "There was no emergency landing and no conversation about Harris." And Willie Brown told "CNN" on the phone that the story was "obviously false": "I have never been in a helicopter with him (Trump) in my life."
The helicopter flight in question took place in 2018, when Trump was inspecting damage from a forest fire in California with Jerry Brown and Governor Newsom, according to the "New York Times".
Despite Trump's claims of a dangerous helicopter incident involving Willie Brown, the former California politician and Harris' ex-boyfriend, earlier reports have revealed contradictions. In fact, Jerry Brown, not Willie Brown, was on the helicopter during the incident in 2018, as confirmed by Governor Gavin Newsom and Jerry Brown's spokesperson. Trump's allegations about the emergency landing and his relationship with Brown have been deemed false by both parties.
