Donald Trump backs Sam Brown in Nevada Republican Senate race.
Sam Brown, an American hero with a Purple Heart, demonstrates remarkable courage and resilience, stated Donald Trump on his Truth Social page. The ex-president celebrated Brown, who was gravely injured by a blast from a roadside bomb in Afghanistan, for his unbelievable resurgence.
Trump applauded Brown, affirming, "Sam Brown has my unwavering support - he'll never disappoint you!"
Brown is currently competing in the Republican presidential primaries alongside Dr. Jeffrey Gunter, a former U.S. ambassador to Iceland, and Jim Marchant, a former state assemblyman. Known for supporting Trump's misleading claims of election fraud, Marchant is a fervent ally. The upcoming general election contest against current Democratic Senator Jacky Rosen is anticipated to be a close-fought battle.
Initially, it was uncertain whether Trump would support any candidates in this race, with many fiercely loyal supporters expressing their desire for Gunter. Brown is known to have received negative attention from these supporters.
Although Brown had earlier knocked on doors for Trump in 2020, he distanced himself from the ex-president, refusing to answer whether he would enjoy sharing a GOP ticket with him in Nevada in an August interview with Punchbowl News. Subsequently, he endorsed Trump before the Iowa caucuses.
In April, Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz held a rally for Gunter in Nevada. Moreover, far-right personalities Laura Loomer and Roger Stone actively criticized Brown on social media for his connections with more moderate Republicans.
Despite noteworthy opposition, Brown has been the most effective at fundraising among all GOP primary contenders.
Upon hearing of Trump's endorsement, Rosen stated on X, "Brown's agenda to forbid abortion, reduce healthcare, and reduce Social Security is innapropriate for Nevada. We will defeat right-wing extremism in November."
Brown gained prominence on Nevada's political stage during the 2022 election cycle as part of his Senate run, where his grassroots campaign declared "duty first" gained him supporters following a second-place finish in the GOP primaries. Previously, Laxalt, who won the primary, lost in the subsequent general election to Democratic Senator Catherine Cortez Masto.
Brown remains a political newcomer in the Nevada political arena. He previously ran for a state legislative seat in Texas in 2014, but failed. He moved to Nevada in 2018 prior to his successful Senate campaign in 2022.
