Does a cordless vacuum cleaner with AI vacuum better?
The Samsung Bespoke Jet AI is a luxuriously equipped cordless handheld vacuum cleaner that uses AI support to make cleaning floors as easy and thorough as possible. ntv.de has tested whether it is worth its high price or whether you are paying too much for PR air.
According to Stiftung Warentest, good cordless handheld vacuum cleaners are available for less than 600 euros. The Samsung Bespoke Jet AI costs more than twice as much. On the one hand, this is due to its comprehensive equipment, which also includes an automatic charging and suction station. On the other hand, with AI support, it is said to clean in an energy-saving yet thorough manner. In the practical test, the vacuum cleaner hardly leaves anything behind, but artificial intelligence doesn't necessarily have anything to do with it.
Big package for a lot of money
Samsung sells the Bespoke Jet AI in various versions with different features. ntv.de received a complete package on loan for the test, which includes an LED-lit active double brush, a pet nozzle, a turntable mop, a second battery and an additional charging station.
The set currently costs around 1200 euros. According to the Samsung store, it also includes another simple brush (slim brush), especially for smooth floors. It was not included in the test package.
Everything weighs an impressive 17 kilos. However, this is not due to the vacuum cleaner itself, which weighs barely more than four kilos with its telescopic tube, large battery and double brush. With the combination brush for upholstery and small battery, it weighs around 1.8 kilos, which is easy to handle. The cleaning station weighs the most, but it also stands securely.
Handy and uncomplicated
The vacuum cleaner has an attractive design and sits comfortably in the hand with its pistol grip. Although it and its accessories are mainly made of plastic, they have a high-quality and clean finish.
The Bespoke Jet AI is also easy to control. Although it is a little sluggish on carpeted floors, it is maneuverable. The double brush is only 6.5 centimeters high, which is why you can also vacuum under many chests of drawers or cupboards. You can go quite deep, even at the base of the vacuum cleaner the tube is only nine centimeters from the floor.
It can also be extended far enough so that even tall people do not have to bend down when vacuuming. To reach even complicated areas, the scope of delivery includes a flex connector that can be placed between the pipe and the combi or flat nozzle and can be bent to well over 90 degrees.
Operation is pleasingly uncomplicated. The vacuum cleaner has an on/off switch above the handle as well as a plus and minus button. Above this, a small black and white display shows the most important information. This includes the approximate time remaining on the battery and the suction mode. There is not much choice here; in addition to Minimal, Medium, Max and Jet, there is the AI mode, which is set as standard.
The AI is a good automatic system
As mentioned at the beginning, you don't have to take "AI" too seriously. Ultimately, it is an automatic system that adapts the suction power to different surfaces. Between 28 and 280 watts are possible.
According to Samsung, sensors measure the load on the brushes and the vacuum pressure during vacuuming. The degree of soiling does not really play a role here; in the test, something only changed when the surface changed.
It remains to be seen whether this should be called AI. The fact is that the adjustment works excellently for the most part. However, the Bespoke Jet AI likes it most of all to be even. Floorboards with gaps of different sizes or creases in short-fiber carpets can occasionally throw it off course.
Good cleaning performance
If necessary, you can temporarily select a different mode, but you should always keep the AI mode. As promised by Samsung, this significantly extends the running time compared to a permanently set medium suction power. If you go to Max or even Jet, the small battery barely lasts more than ten minutes, the larger one perhaps 20 minutes. With "AI", the running times roughly triple.
In the practical test, the Bespoke Jet AI had to vacuum a carpet prepared with flour, hair, fluff, lentils, sugar and Smarties in automatic mode. It did this amazingly effortlessly in just a few seconds. Overall, the cleaning performance with "AI" was almost consistently good.
There were only minor difficulties on smooth floors. In reverse, for example, the brush sometimes spreads coarser dirt instead of sucking it up. And on old floorboards, dirt occasionally remains in deeper crevices if the automatic mode does not increase the power.
Easy maintenance
The cleaning station is great. It does make a loud noise when it sucks out the dust container of the Bespoke Jet AI as soon as you hook it in. But it does it thoroughly. In the test, however, flour in particular clogged up the microfilter, rotary cyclone filter and container, which was to be expected. You can then start the cleaning process again manually, or you can brush and/or wash the components individually with water. They can be easily taken apart and put back together again.
The fine dust filter under the controls on the handle and the station's motor filter are also easy to clean. The same applies to brushes and other accessories. You only have to change the dust bag of the cleaning station occasionally, which is also done in no time at all. However, Samsung's price of 24 euros for five 2-liter bags is exaggerated.
Effective turntable mop
The mop attachment, which costs around 190 euros individually, is a nice and very effective extra, especially if a household has a lot of smooth floors. You attach two supplied mops to the two turntables and place a small bottle filled with water and cleaning agent in the attachment. There is no automatic function, the plates rotate at a constant speed and liquid is sprayed onto the floor at the touch of a button.
The result is impressive, even dried coffee stains etc. can be removed in this way. Mopping is also worthwhile when allergy sufferers come to visit. This is because the vacuum cleaner has a micro filter, but no hepa filter. If you don't want to get your hands dirty when washing out the mops, you can also use disposable wipes, although 20 wipes cost 20 euros.
Conclusion
The Samsung Bespoke Jet AI is an excellent cordless handheld vacuum cleaner that leaves little to be desired. The cleaning performance is good, the handling is simple and the convenience is high. However, there are much cheaper appliances with a simple charging station and "normal" automatic mode that clean just as well and save just as much energy as the luxury vacuum cleaner. Whether they are just as much fun to use is another matter.
The Samsung Bespoke Jet AI is also tested with other household appliances in a networked household, demonstrating its compatibility with modern technology. The results show that it performs well in minimizing dust particles and maintaining cleanliness.
Furthermore, Samsung regularly conducts technology tests on the Bespoke Jet AI to improve its efficiency and performance, ensuring that users always benefit from the latest innovations and upgrades.
