Doctors Without Borders: Hospital in Gaza Strip runs out of supplies

The aid organization Doctors Without Borders (MSF) has called for an end to the siege of the Gaza Strip. The organization announced on the short messaging service X (formerly Twitter) that supplies of fuel and medical material in the Al-Aksa hospital in the middle of the area are now at a critical level.

The reason for this is road closures. "The siege must be lifted, medical supplies must be urgently delivered to the entire Gaza Strip," the organization said.

According to MSF, an average of 150 to 200 people with war injuries have been admitted to the hospital every day since fighting resumed on December 1. "There are currently 700 patients in the hospital and new ones are arriving all the time. We are running out of basic supplies to treat them," said emergency aid coordinator Marie-Aure Perreaut Revial, according to the statement.

The lack of medicines and fuel could mean that the hospital would no longer be able to carry out life-saving operations and intensive medical treatment, the organization warned. Without electricity, ventilators could not be operated, blood transfusions could not take place and the sterilization of surgical instruments would be impossible.

The hospital urgently needs surgical instruments, devices to hold broken bones together and basic medicines, including those for chronic diseases, Perreaut Revial said.
