Islamist Association - Djir-Sarai: Iran's reprisal actions very likely
After the ban of the Islamic Center Hamburg (IZH), FDP General Secretary Bijan Djir-Sarai expressed concern about revenge actions from the Iranian side. "The events are being carefully examined and monitored in Teheran," he said on Wednesday in ARD-"Tagesthemen". The regime has been very active in the past, both inside and outside Europe, when it came to silencing or threatening political opponents. Therefore, he considers it highly likely that "such activities will be examined here and carried out afterwards," said Djir-Sarai.
Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD) had previously banned the nationwide active Islamic association, which the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution considers a "significant propaganda center for Iran in Europe". On Wednesday morning, hundreds of policemen moved in to enforce the ban against the IZH and five affiliated organizations. The raid targeted accounts and buildings in a total of eight federal states, according to the Federal Interior Ministry.
