Immigration Restrictions

Today, President Joe Biden announced new immigration restrictions that allow the administration to ban asylum seekers who cross the US-Mexico border illegally. This action is the most significant move on the southern border for Biden, who's trying to regain control of the immigration issue before the first presidential debate. The measure will be put into effect if there's a daily average of more than 1,500 encounters between ports of entry, officials said. Some progressives criticized the move, and the ACLU has threatened to file a lawsuit to stop the action.

Starliner Mission

Boeing's Starliner mission will make its third attempt at launching two astronauts on a trip to the International Space Station today. The historic mission, called the Crew Flight Test, is set to launch at 10:52 a.m. ET from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. Long-time NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams will be aboard the Starliner capsule for the 24-hour journey. If successful, this would mark the sixth time in U.S. history a crewed spacecraft has made an inaugural voyage. Williams will also make history as the first woman to fly aboard such a mission, but previous launch attempts on May 6 and June 1 were canceled due to issues. The event will be livestreamed on NASA's website.

India Election Results

After polling stations across India saw over 640 million people voting, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared victory in the country's election. However, Modi's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party failed to secure the 272 seats needed for an outright majority in parliament, a surprise result that leaves them dependent on coalition partners to form a government. Modi had promised to win a 400-seat supermajority in this election. Meanwhile, Indian stock markets dropped after Modi's dream of a landslide victory fell apart, casting doubt on his ability to implement more severe economic reforms.

Hunter Biden Trial

Legal analyst explains what jury fatigue could indicate in Hunter Biden federal gun trial. CNN's Erin Burnett speaks with Legal Analyst Ryan Goodman about the jury behavior and opening statements in day 2 of Hunter Biden's federal gun trial.

The second day of Hunter Biden's federal trial featured a battle between prosecutors and defense attorneys over the central issue: whether or not Biden bought a gun while addicted to drugs. Prosecutors presented photos of drugs they discovered on Biden's devices, including images from his infamous laptop. They also showed text messages that they claim indicate him trying to obtain drugs and meet with dealers. The defense argued that many of the texts mentioned by prosecutors about drug-related activities happened months before he purchased the firearm.

Atlanta's Water Crisis

Atlanta officials expect the city's water service to return to normal today following a series of burst water mains, leaving various parts without safe drinking water and triggering a state of emergency. Atlanta has faced disruptions to healthcare and education facilities since Friday. The broken pipes, some dating back to the 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s, illustrate the decaying infrastructure in many large cities across the US. "We are repairing pipes from the 1920s, 1930s, 1940s, and our infrastructure is crumbling," said Atlanta's Chief Operating Officer LaChandra Burks. More than 30% of U.S. water mains are over 50 years old, and failing water mains on average are 53 years old, according to research.
