Discover the Various Methods to Personalize Your Google Calendar

Google Calendar is an app you can effortlessly use with few ponderings. It's designed to be clean, feather-light, and functional by default – this is just what you need when you want to quickly check your schedule.

But, don't be deceived by its simplicity because you actually have more tweaking options on the web version than you might have imagined. Browse through its settings for a bit, and you'll find you've got the power to modify a lot of things on the user interface – from the number of days visible at once to how recurring and past events are presented.

If Google Calendar is a mechanic that you can't live without, it's a good idea to personalize its presentation according to your needs. This means less screen clutter, faster access to vital details, and less time spent swiping across additional windows. Here are the settings worth fine-tuning.

Custom Views

Whatever look Google Calendar's displaying on your web browser, you can modify it by clicking the drop-down menu in the top-right corner, next to the gear icon. It'll be labeled with the name of the present view, like Month or Week. This menu features some basic view options, such as whether or not rejected events or weekends are shown on-screen.

To expound on your power of choice, you can create a personalized view. Click the gear icon (top right), then Settings and choose View options. In the Set custom view drop-down menu, you'll come across options ranging from 2 days to 4 weeks as the time period shown.

This custom view is auto-saved and appears as the last option in the menu's drop-down list on the main Google Calendar screen. Unfortunately, this setup doesn't sync to Google's mobile apps – you'll have to make do with the predefined ones

On the View options page, you'll find other tweaks as well. There's a drop-down menu that lets you pick which day the week should commence on – Saturday, Sunday, or Monday. This changes the layout of any view containing more than seven days at a stretch.

There's also a keyboard shortcut to simply zoom into your custom view – just hit the 'X' key.

Other View Options

Dig deeper into the gear icon (top right), select Settings and View options, and you'll encounter more ways to change Google Calendar's aesthetic. Change the brightness of past events to have old calendar entries appear more subdued on-screen – a convenient thing that aids in identifying your current timetable.

You've got checkboxes to show/hide weekends, rejected events, and completed tasks. Clearing out these details can declutter your calendar and make it less taxing visually. Number labels for weeks can also be shown or hidden.

Next, there are time zone tweaks. Unlock the Time Zone tab on the Settings page and display an additional time zone on the day and week views. This makes it simpler to understand how events fall across various time zones. You can also switch on multiple clocks in the left panel via the World Clock tab: With a glimpse, you can check what time it is in a location and even the weather over there.

Finally, you can tinker with the settings on the real Google Calendar view itself. Click the three horizontal lines (top left) to hide or display the left-hand panel, and in that panel, use checkboxes to manifest or hide individual calendars – an easy way to focus on the things you require. You can also click the gear icon (top right) then Density and color to modify the font size and label colors.
