Director of the Secret Service: We have failed

How could it come to pass that an assassin was able to shoot at Ex-President Trump multiple times unchallenged? The head of the Secret Service, Kimberly Cheatle, must answer these and other questions in the US Congress. Cheatle admits failure of the Service. She will take full responsibility and do everything to ensure such an incident does not happen again, Cheatle stated in a hearing in the US Congress. The Secret Service is responsible for the protection of high-ranking politicians in the USA, including current and former presidents.

One protector opened fire at a Republican Party rally for Ex-President Donald Trump in the city of Butler in the state of Pennsylvania about a week ago. A visitor of the rally died, two others were injured. Trump was wounded in the right ear. The assailant was killed by security personnel.

In the past few days, there have been criticisms of the Secret Service's actions, as the protector was able to reach a roof with a direct view of the stage, which was 135 meters away. Reports also emerged that the young man had already attracted the attention of security personnel with his behavior before Trump's appearance.

"We failed on July 13th," Cheatle said. She described the attack as the most serious failure from the Secret Service in decades. At the same time, she referred to ongoing investigations for further details. The chairman of the Oversight Committee in the House of Representatives, Republican James Comer, stated that the attack could have been prevented. Cheatle does not deserve to keep her position at the helm of the agency. Meanwhile, the Democratic Deputy Chief, Jamie Raskin, pointed out that shooting attacks in America are happening too frequently.

  1. The US Congress is now questioning the Secret Service's handling of the assault on former US President Donald Trump, as the agency failed to prevent an assailant from approaching Trump during a rally in Pennsylvania, leading to his injury.
  2. In light of the US Presidential Election 2024 and the ongoing debate about weapons law in the USA, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of rigorous security measures, especially when it comes to protecting high-ranking politicians like Donald Trump.
  3. Amidst calls for accountability and changes in the Secret Service's protocols, President Trump himself has expressed concerns about the Service's ability to protect him in the future, given the recent failings, raising significant questions about politics and security leading up to the 2024 election.
