Handball - Difficult luck for Melsungen in European-League-Qualifiers

Handball Bundesligist MT Melsungen needs to face Norwegian club Elverum Handball in the qualification for the European League group phase. This was determined in the draw in Vienna.

The first and second leg will take place at the end of August and beginning of September respectively. Therefore, MT initially has home advantage, with the team from Nordhessen traveling to Scandinavia a week later. Elverum finished the league in second place last season, while Melsungen finished fifth in the German Handball League. "There's no question, we've drawn the toughest lot," said MT sports director Michael Allendorf.

MT Melsungen, hailing from Hesse, will compete against Elverum Handball from Norway in the qualification for the European League's group phase. This matchup was decided during the draw held in Vienna. The first leg of the handball game is scheduled for the concluding days of August, providing MT Melsungen with an initial home advantage. Subsequently, MT will travel to Norway for the second leg, which is set for the beginning of September. Elverum clinched the second spot in their league last season, while Melsungen concluded the German Handball League in the fifth position. Asst. sports director Michael Allendorf of MT Melsungen acknowledged the challenging nature of their draw, stating, "There's no doubt, we've drawn the toughest lot."

In light of MT Melsungen's participation in the European League, they will feature in international competition, residing among the top teams across Europe. Elverum Handball, having secured a successful season in Norway, has proven their abilities on the handball court, presenting a worthy opponent for the German team. As the European League continues to grow in popularity and stature, teams like MT Melsungen and Elverum Handball demonstrate the global reach and competitive nature of handball.
