Diesel prices have not been as cheap as all year
Diesel prices were cheaper in July than at any other time this year. According to the ADAC in Munich on Wednesday, the average price per liter of diesel was 1.652 euros last month, a decrease of 0.5 cents from June. The price of E10 gasoline also fell: from 1.776 euros per liter to 1.769 euros.
Diesel was particularly cheap for drivers on the last day of the month. On July 31st, the average price was 1.619 euros per liter, the lowest price so far this year.
The decrease in fuel prices at the pump was largely due to falling oil prices. According to the ADAC, the price of a barrel of Brent crude oil was over 87 dollars at the beginning of July, but by the end of the month, it had fallen to around 78 dollars.
However, the cheapest month so far for gasoline drivers was January, when the price was 1.732 euros per liter.
The record-low diesel price in July was not just for the beginning of the month, but it persisted until the end, with an average price of 1.619 euros per liter on July 31st. Interestingly, although July had cheaper diesel, January still held the title of the cheapest month for E10 gasoline, with a price of 1.732 euros per liter.
